I was born in San Antonio, Texas, into a military family.  That was a disciplined upbringing and included living in Texas, Indiana, Alaska, and Arkansas.  I was fortunate to spend my summers as a teenager on my grandfather’s farm in Southeastern Minnesota and my winters in Ft Worth, Texas.  I  graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Business in 1970 and was first employed in the grain business. 

After two years of working at a country grain elevator for Tabor Grain, I was enabled to purchase a grain elevator with the help of my father and an uncle.  I eventually owned four grain elevators when it became evident to me that my children were not going to be interested in being in the business.  Over a period of three years I sold out of the grain business.  I attended the University of Illinois to accumulate enough credits in accounting to take and pass the CPA test.  My first assignment as a CPA was to work for in the scrap metal business in Danville, IL.  The next assignment was as the CFO for a small grain hedging business in Bloomington, IL, and from there I was introduced to the financial services world in 2000. 

I have been blessed with a wonderful wife for forty-five years, two adult children, and four grandchildren.  My son is an attorney working for the Social Security Administration in the Disability Department and my daughter is the Dean of Academics at Augustine Classical Academy in Lakewood.  My oldest grandson is a senior at the University of Denver, majoring in Japanese and Asian Economics.  Waiting for the rest of the grandchildren to make their mark.
